The "Old" Moline High School was actually two buildings. The first, the "castle", was located to the west. The second, designed by architects Eckland and DeArment in collaboration with the firm of Patton, Holmes and Flinn of Chicago, to the east. Opening in 1915, the school educated thousands of high school students for almost thirty-three years.
Referred to today as Old Moline High School, this building was actually an addition to an older high school building next door (to the west). For decades the two buildings, side by side, looked out over downtown Moline from the crest of the bluff at 16th Street. In 1958 the high school moved to a new and much larger facility on 23rd Avenue west of 41st Street. From 1958 to 1971 the building served as a community college campus (Moline Community College/Blackhawk College). Beling Consultants purchased the building in 1971 and utilized it for office space. Many today also refer to the building as the "Beling" building.
Although the older building is long gone, the 1915 building will soon re-open as apartments after a multi-year renovation.
