The Moline Field House was built in 1928 with bonds purchased by 1,200 Moline residents. Renamed Wharton Field House in 1941 after T. F. Wharton who spearhead the financing of the facility, it is one of the largest high school basketball faculties in the country. Over the years it hosted many visiting entertainers, and a variety of indoor events ranging from professional wrestling, to Easter sunrise services, to the 100th year celebration by Deere & Company. It also was the home to two professional basketball teams, the Tri-City Blackhawks of the NBA in the late 1940s (now the Atlanta Hawks), and the Quad City Thunder of the CBA (Continental Basketball Association) in the 1980s and early 1990s. Today it is a multi-purpose high school athletic facility.
