Moline's neighborhoods and streets have seen a great deal of changes over the years. From the might elm trees of Fifth Avenue, to the advent of gas lighting and then electricity, the growth of the industry and the city's population continue to create a vibrant, ever-changing environment atmosphere.

Today, through the help of several organizations, individual citizens and city employees, Moline's original downtown area is coming back to prominence. Buildings like the Carnegie library building have served Moline for more than 100 years, and some family businesses, like Model Printers (the site of Moline's first library) and Lagomarcinos, continue to thrive.
