5th Avenue

3rd Avenue, 1914 Some basic elements of the classic 20th century downtown can be seen in this late-1920s view of Moline’s 5th Avenue. In the distance is the 1922 Le Claire Hotel, which anchored the eastern end of downtown. In the foreground are banks at the corner of 15th Street, office buildings, and department and specialty stores. The only identifiable business name that remains today is Lagomarcino’s confectionary whose sign is visible just behind Murrays in the right foreground.
