Other Structures, Bridges, etc.

Bridges have always been a way of life in Moline and the other Quad Cities. Ferries were the early means of crossing the river. Unfortunately, early newspapers also recorded the deaths of many people who attempted to swim across the Mississippi River instead of paying the fee. Bridges to the Rock Island Arsenal, Sylvan Island were necessary from the very founding of the area, and the coming of the railroad in the 1850s made railroad bridges an urgent need. The twentieth century made bridges for cars necessary.
Moline has seen other structures over the years that do not fall easily into other categories. You will find those structures here.
