This 15 story hotel, built in 1922 at the height of the new downtown development along 5th Avenue, was one of the tallest buildings in downstate Illinois for decades. It is built in the Prairie style, with a three part vertical block design.

After its completion, the hotel entertained a number of actors and actresses and other notables, including presidents John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagon.

On the National Register of Historic Places since 1993, it underwent extensive renovation in 1995-96 by The Alexander Company of Madison, Wisconsin. It is now a rental apartment building.
