Airport Motel
Route 6
Among the many tourist camps and motor hotels (motels) that sprung up in the 1920s and 1930s along new interregional and transcontinental paved highways, this “apartment motel” was probably unusual. It was ideally located on the “new” transcontinental Route 6, which took this route south from Moline after the Iowa Illinois Memorial Bridge was built over the Mississippi in 1935. Advertisement is from 1940.
