Tabernacle Baptist
8th Street and 16th Avenue
This Soon after this photo was taken in 1904, the Tabernacle Baptist Church was organized by African Americans. Their first church building was this one on 16th Avenue near 8th Street. The building had previously housed the Zion German Methodist Church in the 1890s and the Third Methodist Episcopal Church in the early 1900s. In 1912, the Tabernacle congregation moved this building to 15th Street and 26th Avenue (in Stewartville). The building was replaced there with a new church in 1967. Today, Tabernacle Baptist remains as one of the two oldest African American congregations in Moline.
