MPS was founded in 1986 by a group working to prevent the demolition of the 1858 Joseph Huntoon House. The Italianate home, which included hand-painted ceilings by Swedish artist Frank Lundahl, was ultimately demolished. Although the house and its history were lost, a strong Moline Preservation Society emerged as a result.
On April, 26th members of several local preservation groups came together at the QCA Big Table event where the topic was "The Future of Historic Preservation in the QCA". The purpose of the event is to provide a forum to identify community issues and create solutions. MPS board members, Barb Sandberg, and Craig Sommers represented MPS.
