Huntoon House before demolition

The Moline Preservation Society (MPS) was founded in the spring of 1986 by a group of concerned citizens who organized in an attempt to prevent the demolition of Moline's historic Huntoon House. Built in 1858 by Joseph Huntoon, this beautiful Italianate building contained many treasures, including original hand-painted ceilings by Swedish artist Frank Lundahl. Despite the efforts of the newly-formed group, the owners of the property chose to demolish the home to make way for a modern addition to a neighboring structure. Although the Huntoon House and the history it contained were lost, a strong Moline Preservation Society emerged as a result. ver the past twenty years MPS has grown from a small group of preservation-minded citizens to a group of more than one-hundred members from all walks of life.If you would like to become a part of this exciting organization, or make a donation, print out this membership form and mail it to MPS (our address is on the form).
